Brief
Associated Architects has worked closely with the developer and achieved preferred developer status for a mixed use redevelop-ment of this important city centre site.
Solution
The Jewellery Box is the £65 million redevelopment of the former site of the Science Museum in the centre of Birmingham and includes 140 residential units, 70,000sq.ft office space, retail, arts/exhibition space and possible hotel /leisure facilities. The scheme includes the retention and inclusion of three existing buildings/structures which where electroplating was pioneered in the UK. The design aims to create new canal-side public space at the gateway to the Jewellery Quarter and establish links with those located in the Quarter who will use the space as a showcase and invitation to explore the area further.
